Did you know that more than 50% of all drug molecules used in medicine exist as salts?
Salts are added during the biopharmaceutical manufacturing process to extend shelf life, improve drug efficacy, reduce pain, and prolong patient life. The five most common salts found in medicines today include sodium chloride (NaCl), potassium chloride (KCl), magnesium chloride (MgCl2), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Previously, the only way to check for these salts was to perform laborious and time-consuming liquid chemistry tests or conventional tests.
